Be a Part of History!

Dear Friends, We are excited to share with you a wonderful opportunity to put our city and our community in the spotlight. Your image and pictures of your family or organization can be memorialized in an upcoming book, Filipinos in Stockton (Spring 2008, Arcadia Press). Authors will be Dr. Dawn Bohulano Mabalon, Rico J. Reyes, and the Stockton Chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society and the Little Manila Foundation. Our Filipino American community in Stockton has come to be because of your struggles, hard work, joys, and economic, social, and cultural contributions. We want to honor your participation in the community by including your photographs in this pictorial essay book. We want to include many different individuals, generations, families, businesses and organizations, from every decade, in this book. Every kind of photograph is needed: important civic and community events and celebrations, professional and work history (every kind of profession and work!), organizations, and businesses. We also need photos of individuals, families and family reunions, cultural celebrations, weddings, baptisms, debuts, balls/dances, parties, or everyday scenes out and about in Stockton. We welcome submissions of photos from every decade of Stockton Filipino American history, from the 1910s to 1990s so that we are able to mark our presence and honor the contributions of many generations as a community throughout the decades of Stockton history. We are inviting the community to bring photos to Trinity Presbyterian Church (1002 W. Eighth St., July 28 and 29) and to the Barrio Fiesta Little Manila booth (6 W. Main St., August 11 & 12) so that we can scan your photos, return your originals immediately, and sit with you to identify each person and event in each photo accurately. Please come to one of our submission events to have your photographs scanned and to give you an opportunity to talk about your history in Stockton. If you cannot make the submission events, please contact us via telephone at (209) 477-7143 or email via dmabalon@sfsu.edu. If you prefer, please send us a CD-ROM of your photos (limit submission to 10) following the scanning specs indicated on the flyer (AT LEAST 300dpi, TIFF file, grayscale) by August 1, 2007. Please be sure to include a separate sheet with captions identifying the people photographed, the date when the photograph was taken (at least the year), and the name of the location where the photograph is taken. Remember that your history, and your family and organization’s history, is Stockton’s Filipino American history! Looking forward to seeing you and hearing from you soon. Sincere Regards, Rico Reyes, M.F.A. Dawn Bohulano Mabalon, Ph.D.
