Pilipino Youth Conference 2012 at UC Davis

Attention LMASP Students!

Pilipin@ Youth Conference is a three-day event hosted by BRIDGE: Pilipin@ Outreach & Retention, held at the University of California, Davis. PYC aims to promote higher education, cultural awareness and social justice activism through workshops, creative expressions, and self-application. PYC is open to all high school students of different races, socioeconomic status, gender and the passion to learn. PYC also incorporates a mentorship program through the creation of different pamilyas (families) led by college students.

The conference will be held at the UC Davis Campus from January 27-29. Participant applications are due January 11.

We encourage all high school youth to apply. Visit the PYC 2012 website for more information.

LMASP Fee Waivers to PYC 2012

In conjunction with the PYC Coordinators, LMASP will be offering fee waivers to cover registration costs for the conference. We encourage students to turn in fee waiver submissions ASAP due to the limited availability of funds. NOTE: You do not have to apply for this fee waiver to attend PYC 2012, this is a supplemental application for financial aid.

Requirements: Preference will be given to active LMASP students who have attended 2 or more LMASP sessions this current school year. Must also be a current High School student, grade 9-12.

Guidelines: After filling out the PYC Application, expand and develop your response to Question 2 in the application -- Why do you want to attend the Pilipino Youth Conference 2012? What do you hope to gain from this experience?

We are accepting written and video responses. Written responses must be between 250-500 words and video responses must be a minimum of 1 minute, maximum of 4 minutes. We encourage you to be creative with this so feel free to tap into your special and unique talents as individuals, i.e. write an essay, a speech, a song, perform a spoken word, act something out, dance, film a video blog, narrate a slide show etc. Keep in mind that we are looking for thoughtful responses that clearly respond to the prompt! Good luck and have fun.

Deadline: Submission deadline is December 12. Send a copy of your PYC 2012 application and scholarship submission (i.e. word documents or YouTube links) electronically to lmafterschool.teachers@gmail.com. Fee waiver recepients will be notified by January 9.

Video Throwback

The highlight of every conference is the Open Mic where particpants showcase their talents for all to appreciate. Check out former LMASP students Zach Aguilar and Rosemae Zamora during PYC 2009's open mic!
